OVERVIEW

STCA seeks to assist homeschool parents in the education of their children by offering the support and community of an academy while protecting the flexibility and parental involvement of home eduction.

Tutors

Our criteria for staff include a dedication to the Catholic faith, knowledge and love of the subject area taught, and a commitment to the moral and academic growth of young students. Our vision is that faculty and parents walk alongside their students and one another in the pursuit of wisdom. To that end, we offer individual and group training to the staff. Most importantly, however, we explore our Catholic faith together and constantly discuss how to best know and serve the children in our community.

Grades and classes

STCA serves grades 1-12, providing a comprehensive, hybrid education for the entire family. We split the classes into multi-level groups for history, science, faith, and art. Skill work, including Latin, composition, and language are divided into skill levels.

Grammar I: 1st – 3rd grade

Grammar II: 4th – 6th grade

Logic: 7th – 9th grade

High School: 9th – 12th grade

Location

St. Thomas Classical Academy rents space Sts. John and Paul Catholic Parish in Altoona. Our classrooms are located in the Parish Center which provides dedicated space for our classrooms, Atrium space for Catechesis of the Good Shepherd, and shared space for eating and other activities. Our location at a parish allows us to have Mass every school day at the church.

Academic Year

We offer a 32-week academic year, beginning around the feast of the Queenship of Our Lady (August 22) and ending around May 13, the feast of Our Lady of Fatima. The academic year includes extended breaks to celebrate the seasons of Christmas and Easter.
