CATHOLIC

At STCA, we envision faculty, parents, students, and clergy joining together in the pursuit of the wisdom of Christ crucified. To do this, we believe that we need look no further than the liturgy of our Catholic faith to guide us, centering our days, weeks, months, and years around the liturgy.

Liturgical Life

Participating in the liturgical life of the Church is at the heart of our school. In addition to beginning the day with the celebration of Holy Mass, we observe feast days and liturgical season together, pray novenas at home and school, building a community centered on our faith.

Catechesis of the Good Shepherd

St. Thomas Classical Academy offers Catechesis of the Good Shepherd for Infant and Toddler and Level, I, II, and III. The children’s time and study in the atrium is an integral part of the faith formation for all Grammar students at STCA. CGS Level I (for children ages 3 to 6) is also open to younger children who are not old enough to be enrolled in STCA.

As part of our CGS program, we offer an optional first communion retreat for all students, which includes Scripture meditations and several days in the atrium leading up to their first reconciliation and communion.

“If the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd is a chorus, the children's high-pitched voices predominate. We adults attune our voices to those of the children so that, in a hymn of gratitude, all our voices might reach heaven together."

Independent Catholic Academy

Since our founding in 2017, we have operated with the support of the Bishop of the Diocese of Des Moines. As an independent homeschool program, we are not officially connected with the diocese of Des Moines, but the tradition of the Catholic faith is the center of everything we teach and every decision we make.
